What you'll learn

  • Learn to understand what are the real fundamentals of SAFe.
  • Without having a deep understanding of the fundamentals and principles that SAFe is built on, you will only get a false impression of what SAFe is.
  • The secret is to stay flexible within your context.
  • SAFe is a framework, so we talk over the conceptual structure of ideas.
  • SAFe is not a rule, not a process.
  • Implementation roadmap is a guideline, not a manual.
  • Use that information carefully for your own context and absorb what makes sense.
  • The execution of a plan is a team effort, not one person's idea of how to execute the plan.
  • You should embrace SAFe, not turn it off if it becomes inconvenient.
  • Don't think about hierarchy, but who is the best to fill the roles in SAFe.
  • Alignment before launch, good preparation before PI and ART launch is important.
  • Try to avoid what SAFe ‘says’ let's look at what is needed and find the best answers and what SAFe matters.
  • Make sure people are trained and they understand their role
  • Keep continuous improvement mindset
  • Find a guide
  • Encourage people to share concerns and raise their hand
  • Question lead to discussion and discussion lead to solving the problems
  • Dynamic going is gold, encourage it
  • Try to understand the underlying principles and values of SAFe to be able to stay flexible
  • Be ready when the plan changes
  • Quiet people have often good ideas, encourage them to speak out
  • Being a coach involves a lot of things, not only a certification
  • Be aware of what is the cost of not collaborating
  • RTE is a servant leader
  • Plans are important but they are not set in stones
  • Position yourself in the way to be able to adjust
  • Objectives are the guiding principles
  • Help team to remember what the objectives are so they can stay on the mission
  • Always think of system thinking
  • Address bottlenecks
  • Stay connected with various meetings - ART sync, PO sync, scrum of scrum
  • Make sure you demo to the customer through the PI
  • Metrics should be value-based - how do we obtain value to the customer and how we are achieving the objectives
  • Continuous improvement  - do it over and over again
  • Don't use the same formula for every ART
  • Understand the challenges of the ART and be able to address them
  • Look at the variability
  • Understand the risk and change
  • Invest in each of your ART as you did the first one
  • Understand the needs of the current ART that you working on
  • Adress the context of each ART separately
  • Transparency leads to a discussion, discussion leads to problem-solving
