RTE Cockpit crash course

This is Lesson 3 of the piplanning.io RTE Cockpit Setup course, in which you will learn how to create a new Program Increment session and how to configure the basics of a PI session.

We have created the Teams, the ARTs and possibly also the Solution Trains. Now let’s navigate to “SAFe PIs” and create a new PI session. We will go through all the configuration steps of setting up a new PI session without an ALM connection.

First give your new session a Name. This is the name that the teams will see when they login to select the PI. Ideally you give it the name of your PI. For example “PI 4 - 2022”. It can be anything. Set the date of when the PI Planning takes place. This will highlight this session and lead the teams to the right session at the day of PI Planning. Next put in the number of iterations. Here I have an important disclaimer for you. This number can’t be changed after we are done with the initial setup of this session. So you have to get this right.

Throughout this course I will make sure that you know which settings you can’t change afterwards. Everything else you are able to go back and modify later on.

Duration of the iteration in days will make it more convenient for us to fill in step 9 “iterations”. Because it will help with the auto-fill. Important: Here we are talking about actual weekdays and not just workdays. So with 14 we have a two week iteration. Next we need to select the ALM tool. As stated earlier. In this course we will go through the configuration without the ALM tool. So we will select “None” here from the dropdown. The last step on this page is this checkbox “Confirm the delete of stickies”. If it is checked, like it is here by default, to delete sticky notes you need to confirm it in order to get rid of it. It’s more of a safety setting not to lose any valuable thoughts by accident. So I would leave it checked. Press next.
